  1. Elon Musk said it would be a "good idea" to merge Tesla and SpaceX, with both companies having formed independent director committees to examine the combination, though Musk cautioned there is "no guarantee" anything happens and said he is a conflicted party who cannot take part in those discussions.
  2. GSK, the pharmaceutical company, won FDA approval for Hibsago, a first-in-class hepatitis B treatment that achieved a functional cure rate of 19% in trials, against less than 1% for existing therapy, making it the first drug to offer meaningful cure rates for a disease affecting around 1.7 million Americans.
  3. The FTSE 100 opened flat as the inflation data offset a broadly positive Asian session, before heading higher as bumper SpaceX earnings after hours on Tuesday propelled Wall Street and dragged London with it.
  4. Ashtead Technology, the AIM-listed subsea equipment rental and services company, agreed a £505 million takeover by Ember, a US infrastructure investor, in a deal representing a significant premium to its recent market value.
  5. Halfords, the automotive and cycling retailer, backed its upgraded profit guidance after a strong summer drove a 7% jump in sales.

That's your five for Wednesday.
