Google Cloud outage takes down Revolut and hits wave of UK websites

A Google Cloud outage is causing widespread disruption across the UK, knocking out Revolut's banking app and card payment services and affecting a string of major websites including Rightmove, Lloyds Bank, HSBC, Royal Mail, Sky and DPD.

Revolut customers have been left unable to pay in stores as well as access the app itself, with the company confirming its engineering team is working to restore full service.

Google said it is experiencing issues with multiple services across Western Europe and that its engineers are investigating, though it has given no indication of when the problem will be resolved.

The outage, which began affecting services from around 7am, has reignited debate about the internet's dependence on a small number of cloud infrastructure providers.

Halifax also confirmed it is experiencing problems with its app and online banking, though it did not explicitly link the issues to Google Cloud.

Google Cloud suffered a similar outage in 2025, as did Cloudflare, which took down ChatGPT and X.
