THE MARKET REPORTER

Version: 1.0 - October 2026

Last Updated: October 2026

Review Due: March 2027

Applies to: www.themarketreporter.co.uk

Data Controller: The Market Reporter

Your privacy matters: This policy explains what cookies are, which ones we use, why we use them, and how you can manage your preferences. It applies globally across all The Market Reporter sites. Where your jurisdiction gives you specific additional rights, including under US, Canadian, or UK/EU law, these are set out in the dedicated regional sections below.

Jurisdiction-specific sections in this policy cover the United Kingdom & EEA, United States, Canada, and Australia.

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently, remember your preferences, and provide website owners with information about how their sites are used.

Cookies are not programs and cannot carry viruses or install malware. They contain only small amounts of data and can only be read by the website that created them or, in the case of third-party cookies, by the third-party service that set them.

In addition to cookies, we may use similar technologies including web beacons, pixel tags, and local storage. References to "cookies" in this policy include these similar technologies unless otherwise stated.

2. Who We Are

The Market Reporter is the data controller for personal data processed through cookies on www.themarketreporter.co.uk.

3. Legal Basis for Using Cookies

Our legal basis for placing cookies varies by region and cookie category.

  • United Kingdom — Legal Framework & Basis: PECR (as amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025) and UK GDPR. Strictly necessary cookies: legitimate interest. Analytics cookies: set for statistical purposes only, under the PECR exception for statistical purposes; we tell you about them on your first visit and you can switch them off at any time. All other cookies: your consent.
  • European Economic Area — Legal Framework & Basis: ePrivacy Directive and EU GDPR. Strictly necessary cookies: legitimate interest. All other cookies: your consent.
  • United States — Legal Framework & Basis: Applicable state privacy laws including CCPA/CPRA. Analytics cookies are set by default; you can switch them off at any time via Cookie settings in the footer.
  • Canada — Legal Framework & Basis: PIPEDA. Analytics cookies are set by default, with a simple way to switch them off via Cookie settings in the footer.
  • Australia — Legal Framework & Basis: Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles. Analytics cookies are set by default, with a simple way to switch them off via Cookie settings in the footer.

4. Categories of Cookies We Use

We group cookies into four categories based on their purpose. If you visit from the European Economic Area or Switzerland, a bar at the foot of the page asks whether you accept analytics cookies, and none are set until you accept. In the UK, analytics cookies are set for statistical purposes only, and a notice on your first visit lets you switch them off. Elsewhere, analytics cookies are on by default. Wherever you are, you can change your choice at any time via the Cookie settings link in the footer.

4.1 Strictly Necessary Cookies

No consent required: these cookies are essential for our sites to function. They cannot be switched off in our systems.

  • consent_status — Provider: The Market Reporter — Purpose: Remembers your choice about analytics cookies. — Duration: 12 months
  • cf_clearance — Provider: Cloudflare — Purpose: Set only if our security service asks your browser to complete a check; remembers that it passed. — Duration: up to 30 minutes

4.2 Analytics & Performance Cookies

These cookies allow us to count visits and measure traffic so we can improve the performance of our sites.

  • _ga — Provider: Google Analytics — Purpose: Registers a unique ID to generate statistical data on how you use the site. — Duration: 2 years
  • _ga_[ID] — Provider: Google Analytics — Purpose: Persists session state. — Duration: 2 years

We use Google Analytics 4, which does not log or store IP addresses. Google Signals and Google's advertising features are switched off on our property. If you switch analytics cookies off, we remove any Google Analytics cookies already set, and the page then sends Google only cookieless pings, which neither set nor read cookies on your device. You can also opt out of Google Analytics tracking across all websites by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on available at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

4.3 Functional Cookies

We do not currently use functional cookies.

4.4 Third-Party & Embedded Content Cookies

Some pages include content embedded from third-party services such as video players and social media posts. These third parties may set their own cookies. We do not control these cookies, so please refer to each provider's own privacy and cookie policy.

  • YouTube (Google) — Type: Functional — Purpose: Set when embedded videos are played. — Further Information: policies.google.com/privacy
  • Twitter / X — Type: Functional — Purpose: Set by embedded posts. — Further Information: twitter.com/privacy

We use privacy-enhanced embed modes, such as YouTube's nocookie domain, wherever technically possible to minimise third-party cookie placement on page load.

4.5 Marketing & Targeting Cookies

We do not currently use marketing or targeting cookies.

5. How Long Cookies Last

Cookies are either session cookies or persistent cookies:

  • Session cookies are temporary and are deleted when you close your browser.
  • Persistent cookies remain on your device for a set period of time after you close your browser.

6. Data Sharing & International Transfers

Cookie data collected directly by The Market Reporter is not sold or rented to third parties. Where we share anonymised or aggregated analytics data with service providers such as Google Analytics, this is done under appropriate data processing agreements.

Some third-party cookies may involve the transfer of data outside your country of residence. Where such transfers occur, they are subject to appropriate safeguards including Standard Contractual Clauses, adequacy decisions, or other legally recognised transfer mechanisms.

7. Your Choices & How to Manage Cookies

If you visit from the European Economic Area or Switzerland, the cookie bar lets you accept or reject analytics cookies. Both are equally easy, and nothing is set until you accept. In the UK, a notice on your first visit lets you keep analytics cookies on or switch them off. Elsewhere, analytics cookies are on by default and you can switch them off in the same way.

Your choices are stored for 12 months and can be updated at any time via Cookie Settings in the footer. You can also control cookies through your browser settings. Additional opt-out tools:

We currently do not alter our data collection practices in response to Do Not Track signals, as there is no universally recognised standard for how websites should respond to them.

8. Changes to This Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the cookies we use, changes in applicable law, or improvements to our disclosure practices.

Where changes are material, we will notify you via a refreshed consent banner when you next visit.

9. Regional Jurisdiction Supplements

The sections below set out additional rights and obligations that apply to users in specific jurisdictions. These supplements apply in addition to the global provisions above.

  • United Kingdom & European Economic Area: UK GDPR, PECR 2003, EU GDPR.
  • United States: CCPA / CPRA and applicable state privacy laws.
