Gammon Gold to change its name to AuRico Gold

Gammon Gold (TSE:GAM) (NYSE:GRS) announced Monday plans to change the company's name to AuRico Gold.

The decision is subject to shareholder approval, expected at the annual meeting of shareholders on June 9. If approved, the name change will become effective starting June 13.

The ticker symbol on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange will also be changed to "AQN," along with the introduction of a new logo and website.

The name "AuRico" combines the atomic symbol for gold ("Au") and the Spanish word for "rich" ("rico").

The changes are expected to be more representative of the company, it said.

"Our new name and logo reflect our renewed commitment as we build upon our successes and enrich shareholder value through continued operational excellence and growth," said president and CEO, René Marion.

The Toronto-based company owns and operates three producing mines in Mexico: the Ocampo mine in Chihuahua State, the El Chanate project in Sonora State, and the El Cubo mine in Guanajuato State.

Gammon also owns several advanced exploration properties throughout Mexico, including the Guadalupe y Calvo property and the Orion project.
