Access Pharmaceuticals to present MuGard data at MASCC symposium in Vancouver

Access Pharmaceuticals (OTCBB: ACCP) has said it will present data from the ongoing work involving its lead product MuGard and host an oral mucositis symposium at the MASCC conference in Vancouver in June, which it said would feature a “broad and prestigious” audience.

MASCC (Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer) specializes in research and education in all aspects of supportive care for patients with cancer with its membership representing over 60 countries. Members include oncology medical, surgical, and radiology physicians, nurses, dentists, dental hygienists, pharmacists and representatives from industry and non-profit sectors.

MASCC symposiums are convened annually.

MuGard is an FDA-approved oncology supportive care treatment in the form of an oral wound rinse. It is used for the management of oral mucositis, a painful inflammation and ulceration of the mucous membranes which is a debilitating side effect of radiation treatment and chemotherapy.

“As we continue our efforts to commercially launch MuGard in North America, our presence at the MASCC conference demonstrates our strategic focus on raising the awareness of the product’s important role in the management of oral mucositis,” said President and Chief Executive of Access Pharmaceuticals Jeffrey Davis.

MuGard has been launched in the UK, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Norway and Greece through Access’ partner SpePharm and has received approval from the South Korean Food and Drug Administration (KFDA).

Access plans to launch the product in South Korea and North America later this year.

The company estimates the market for the treatment of oral mucositis to be in excess of US$1 billion worldwide.
