FTSE 100 set for a bright start to the week

The FTSE 100 is set for a bright start to the week as it rides on the back of the general market euphoria.

The delayed knock-on impact of America’s upbeat jobs data gave Asia’s main bourses a shove in an upwards direction.

The record close on Wall Street prompted a 0.5% rise in the Nikkei in Japan, which hit a three-month high, while Hong’s Hang Seng (+0.75%) and the Shanghai Composite (+0.36%) followed suit.

“China has started the week in promising fashion with an improved trade balance that saw exports improve and imports drop and has helped European markets look set for a higher open this morning,” said CMC analyst Jasper Lawler.

Here in the UK the spread-betting firm IG is predicting a 21 point rise on open to 6,879.21.

This week sees pet shop chain Pets at Home (LON:PETS) report earnings for the first time as a listed company.

Since its float in March at 245p, the company’s shares have dropped to 216p, suffering from the IPO burnout that has descended on the market.

We are also expected to hear a little more about the TSB stock market debut due later this year.

The Sunday rumour mill has that Lloyds (LON:LLOY) will price the issue at a 10% discount to TSB’s current book value.
