Tamboran Resources Corporation is a public natural gas company with a vision of supporting the net zero CO2 energy transition in Australia and Asia-Pacific through developing low CO2 unconventional gas resources in the Northern Territory of Australia.
Holding premium acreage in the highly prospective Beetaloo/McArthur basin, the company is strategically positioned to commercialise these resources to address a forecast domestic energy shortfall and as a feed supplier to existing Australian LNG plants.
Tamboran Resources Corporation (NYSE:TBN, ASX:TBN, OTC:TBNRL, FRA:O8R) has begun initial gas sales from the Shenandoah South Pilot Project in the Northern Territory’s Beetaloo Basin, marking the first volumes from the basin to enter the Northern Territory gas market.
Tamboran and joint venture partner Daly Waters Energy, LP (DWE) delivered the first gas into the Northern Territory network over the weekend, beginning the commissioning phase of the project.
Production is expected to progressively ramp up to the full 40 terajoules per day (TJ/d) contracted to the Northern Territory Government under a long-term take-or-pay agreement by early 2027. During commissioning, Tamboran and DWE will receive a discounted gas price reflecting the interruptible nature of supply.
The milestone represents an important step in Tamboran’s strategy to establish the Beetaloo Basin as a long-term source of natural gas for the Northern Territory and, eventually, the broader Australian East Coast market.
Tamboran Resources Corporation (NYSE:TBN, ASX:TBN, OTC:TBNRL, FRA:O8R) has begun gas commissioning of the Sturt Plateau Compression Facility (SPCF) at its Shenandoah South development in the Beetaloo Basin, bringing the company closer to first gas sales to the Northern Territory Government.
The milestone comes alongside a non-binding memorandum of understanding with Liberty Energy (NYSE: LBRT) aimed at extending their hydraulic fracture stimulation and wireline services partnership for up to five years.
Tamboran Resources Corporation (NYSE:TBN, ASX:TBN, OTC:TBNRL, FRA:O8R) has completed the acquisition of Falcon Oil & Gas Ltd’s subsidiaries, following final court approval from the Supreme Court of British Columbia.
The acquisition gives Tamboran about 2.8 million net prospective acres in the Beetaloo Basin depocenter, making it the largest acreage holder in the key Northern Territory gas region.
Australia’s emerging gas supply challenge is turning undeveloped northern resources from a long-term proposition into a matter of national energy planning.
The Australian Energy Market Operator expects declining production from southern fields to create supply risks from 2030 under most weather conditions, with new investment in gas, storage, and transport required to keep the east coast market adequately supplied. Greater access to northern Australian gas is one of the potential solutions identified by the market operator.
Tamboran Resources chief executive Todd Abbott talked with Proactive about the company’s recent milestones, including securing US$198 million in funding to accelerate development in the Beetaloo Basin.
Abbott explained that the capital raise reflects strong institutional confidence in Tamboran Resources’ strategy and highlights the growing importance of energy security. He noted that investors are increasingly focused on reliable energy supply, particularly in regions like Australia that are well-positioned to serve Asian markets.
The funding provides Tamboran Resources with greater financial flexibility as it advances toward first gas production, expected in 2026. Abbott confirmed that initial production is anticipated as early as the third quarter of this year, supplying gas into the Northern Territory. This marks a significant step as the Beetaloo Basin transitions from exploration into production and cash flow generation.
