Compass to move to next course after pandemic recovery

Investors will be keen to see if Compass Group PLC (LSE:CPG) has started the financial year strongly after forecasting a 20% increase to underlying profits for its financial year to September 2023.

The catering giant saw its share price fall by 45% during the depths of pandemic-hit 2020 but by last summer had regained the ground.

Last year, the business doubled earnings per share and ladled out a dividend increase of 125% as well as serving up a £250mln share buyback scheme that followed on from a £500mln buyback the year before.

For 2023, Compass said it expected constant-currency underlying operating profit growth "above 20%", based on revenue growth of around 15%, weighted towards the first half of the year, and underlying operating margins above 6.5%.

The company will provide a first-quarter update on the morning of its annual general meeting.
