METLEN Energy & Metals, the FTSE 100 industrial and energy group, has signed a collaboration agreement with Thales Alenia Space and Thales Hellas to pursue opportunities in Greece's future defence telecommunications space programme.
The three-way partnership will work together to assess how their combined capabilities could contribute to an end-to-end defence satellite communications system for the Greek military, providing secure, sovereign and jam-resistant communications.
Thales Alenia Space, a joint venture between Thales and Leonardo, would supply the satellite platform and associated ground infrastructure, drawing on its track record in secure telecommunications satellites.
METLEN brings industrial and technological capabilities through its M Technologies division, including the potential use of its gallium production operations in the supply chain for future satellites built by Thales Alenia Space and delivered globally.
Gallium is a critical material used in semiconductor and defence electronics manufacturing, and METLEN operates the only fully integrated bauxite, alumina and primary aluminium production unit in the European Union.
The agreement also envisages technology transfer and skills development within Greece's domestic industrial base, with the partners committing to maximise local content as part of any future programme.
Greece has been expanding its defence capabilities in recent years, with NATO membership obligations and regional tensions driving increased military investment.
METLEN, which holds a primary listing in London and a secondary listing in Athens, reported revenue of €7.11 billion and EBITDA of €753 million in 2025.
