Chemring, the FTSE 250 defence technology group, has announced that its UK subsidiary Roke Manor Research has signed a five-year strategic partnering agreement with a major US prime contractor worth at least $170 million.

The deal covers supply of Roke's Nav-Sync Miniature Radar Altimeter (MRA), a compact radar device designed for use on high-speed platforms and uncrewed air vehicles.

Roke has received an initial $16 million production order covering the first twelve months, with deliveries beginning this month.

The agreement is expected to extend beyond the initial five-year term to at least 2035.

Roke's Nav-Sync MRA is the smallest and lowest-mass radar altimeter of its type currently available, using proprietary software and digital signal processing to provide accurate altitude measurement at high speed and low altitude.

Chemring chief executive Michael Ord said: "This agreement with a major US Prime Contractor is another milestone in Roke's strategy to grow revenues from its growing portfolio of world-leading defence products and systems.

"It also demonstrates that, despite continued near-term headwinds in its domestic defence market, Roke continues to make progress in developing its international business, positioning it well for growth in the future."

The deal underlines growing international demand for Roke's products at a time when the UK defence budget remains under pressure.
