Wise adds two million customers in a year as revenues climb 21%

Wise Group, the international money transfer company listed in London and New York, grew active customers by 20% year-on-year to 12.5 million in its second fiscal quarter.

Cross-border transaction volumes rose 22% to $71.7 billion in the three months to 30 September, while net revenue climbed 21% to $739.1 million.

Customer holdings, which include both cash balances and assets under custody, increased 28% year-on-year to $43.5 billion.

Card spending on Wise accounts reached $14.3 billion in the quarter, reflecting growing use of the platform for everyday transactions beyond international transfers.

The cross-border take rate, the fee Wise charges as a proportion of money moved, fell three basis points year-on-year to 0.49%, as the company continued to pass efficiency gains back to customers through lower prices.

Instant transfers accounted for 78% of transactions, up four percentage points on a year earlier.

Co-founder and chief executive Kristo Käärmann said the results showed customers were using Wise for more than just occasional transfers.

"Customers are also using Wise for more of their everyday financial needs, spending $14 billion on Wise cards and increasing holdings to $44 billion," he said.

During the quarter, Wise launched in Malaysia with its ninth direct banking integration and introduced its account and card product in Thailand.

The company also rolled out Wise Assets in New Zealand and announced a partnership with OakNorth to handle international payments for UK business customers.

Wise raised its full-year revenue guidance, now expecting net revenue growth in the upper half of its 15-20% medium-term target range, implying growth of between 17.5% and 20%.

It also expects income before tax margin to come in around the top of its 20-25% target range for the full year.
